How it happened!

During our visit to Mae Sot on the Thai Burma border during the Christmas holidays in 2011 we were approached by our friend 'Big' to visit an area he felt needed a school. We visited the area with Big and his friend Eh Chris (plus the armed guard) and discussed their plans to set up a school for the children near Blah Toh village. We agreed to fund the costs of setting up the school so that it would be ready for the new school year in May 2012. They spoke to the head villager and it was decided to locate the school in the actual village rather than the previously chosen location. Since then, Big, Eh Chris and the villagers have been busy preparing the site and organising the building materials. We have since discussed the running costs of the school and agreed to fund the school for the coming school year.

Milling of the Trees

The trees are cut into planks on a portable saw mill. The mill is set up temporarily on tree stumps and the wood is cut with a large circular blade running of a small diesel engine. Nails are used to guide the wood for the different size cuts. The level of accuracy is amazing considering the basic equipment that is used.
A portable mill brought in to cut the wood.

The wood has been stacked according to size.

Eh Chris has been working very hard to make the school happen!

After the wood has been cut it is ready to be moved to Blah To Village where the school is going to be built. The wood was moved using the local 'Tak Tak' tractors and Big's ute. As this is a community project, the villagers helped unload the planks at the village.
Big's ute well and truly loaded up.
